Event seeks to spread the Charger spirit

Central High School (CHS) has been celebrating its 50th anniversary during the school year. In conjunction with this celebration, a special program is being planned for the spring — “Down Central’s Corridor: Fifty Years Later.”
I am excited to work alongside devoted teachers, students, staff and community patrons to preserve and record the history of our beloved high school. It is my hope that this exhibit will promote interest in history, education and, most importantly, the Charger spirit!
This special program will be held on Saturday, May 20, from noon-4 p.m. A display will showcase 50 years of personal memorabilia, photographs, annuals, textiles and school uniforms. In addition to this exhibit, guided tours will be given on a rotating basis of the school campus and a small reception will follow.
Additionally, those who attend will have the opportunity to view annuals and scrapbooks. This will be a wonderful program, and I would love to have the public’s participation in this historic event and reunion!
I am asking current and former Chargers to rekindle their high school memories by loaning items relating to their school experience at CHS for this exhibit.
Whether it be a school uniform, prom attire, photograph or personal memento, I would love to include your CHS memory in this display!
If you would like to loan an item for this event, the deadline is Monday, April 17.
I will be happy to pick up any exhibit items from the lender and can be reached at jonathan.clarke@k12lcps.org.
Lenders can also drop off or mail their items to CHS, 131 K-V Road, Victoria, VA 23974.
I will personally ensure that all items will be cared for and stored properly prior to going on display.
Such items will be stored under lock and key with our principal, John Long.
Each item will then be inventoried and documented for future reference.
If you choose to loan a vintage textile (please note that the majority of which will be hung) select pieces will be displayed on either a dress form or mannequin.
More so, I will ensure the pick-up and return of your precious item(s).
All items on loan for this exhibit will be returned no later than Sunday, May 28.
I hope that you will be able to attend this program and reunion, capturing our dear Central High’s history.
