A fire destroyed a front-end loader at Lignetics, a woodworking supply company at 11068 S. Hill Road in Kenbridge on Thursday.

The fire was reported at approximately 1 p.m., according to Kenbridge Fire Chief Richard “Dickie” Harris.

A Catepillar front-end loader caught fire during the incident, Harris said, due to what’s suspected to have been a fuel leak.

The fire resulted in a complete loss of the front-end loader, Harris said. Nothing else in the vicinity was damaged, Harris said.

The Kenbridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident.

The Lignetics manufacturing plant produces premium wood pellets, made by recycling residue from sawmill products.

The estimated replacement cost for the front end loader, Harris said, was approximately $250,000.
