VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill recently received a $25,000 contribution from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation.
“The funds will support establishment of a family dental clinic in Southern Virginia with a strong focus on improving dental care for children and pregnant women,” hospital officials said in a press release.
“Localities served by the hospital, primarily Brunswick, Lunenburg and Mecklenburg counties, have been identified as Dental Health Professional Shortage areas by the Health Resources and Services Administration.”
“Oral health is a key component to maintaining good overall health and a high quality of life,” said Scott Burnette, CEO of VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital.
“Tooth decay is the single most common chronic disease in children, and poor oral health in adults is linked to many chronic diseases as well as adverse pregnancy outcomes. “…Individuals in our service area will have increased access to first-class care from dental health professionals and technicians,” he said of the funding.
