A 30-year-old Victoria woman was charged with failure to stay right of center following an accident Monday on Route 40 near the intersection of Route 663 that involved a tractor trailer. According to Virginia State Police Public Relations Coordinator Susan Rowland, Geneva L. Couch was traveling westbound on Route 40 in a 2007 Nissan Altima near the intersection of Route 663 when she crossed the centerline and struck the front
corner and driver’s side of a 2017 Western Star Day Cab tractor trailer that was carrying wood chips. Its load was unaffected.
“Investigation revealed that Couch had apparently fallen asleep prior to the crash,” Rowland said. “Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.”
Rowland said Couch was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
“The driver of the tractor trailer, David T. Baker, 41, of Cumberland, was uninjured,” Rowland said.
The crash remains under investigation.
