Library happenings noted

August is back to school time in Lunenburg for kids and adults. The Lunenburg County Public Library System (LCPLS) will offer General Equivalency Diploma (GED) classes at both branches beginning Aug. 14. Classes at the Ripberger location will be held Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5-8 p.m. and the Victoria branch offers sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-noon.
Victoria native and author Martha Harvin will read selections from her book, “He’s a Funny Cat, Ms. High” at the Victoria branch community room Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m. The book chronicles her years as a performer with the legendary James Brown.
Aug. 21 is the day of the total solar eclipse that will be visible in Virginia. The Ripberger branch will hold an eclipse program Aug. 18 at 10:30 for ages 5 and up. The program will include storytime, astronomical facts and a craft project. It is open to the public and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
