Let’s support the cantata

We share the hope of Chamber President Mel Payne that the planned Christmas Cantata will be “a huge, huge thing.”

Members of the Lunenburg Chamber of Commerce are setting plans in motion for this year’s cantata concert, expected to take place during the holiday season.

“I’m happy to say it’s going to happen this year,” Chamber President Mel Payne said during a recent chamber meeting. “We’ve got all the wheels rolling in the right direction.”

It’s our hope that the community, as the time nears, will support the chamber in its efforts to begin an annual event that will bring together our county — uniting us for a common purpose of celebrating in song.

We commend Pat Israel — who has worked to support our community for many years — who is heading up the committee in charge of the cantata.

We also commend Cantata Director Reginald Davis, a Lunenburg County native, who has agreed to make this event a signature staple of Lunenburg.

As Davis noted, it’s crucial that we, as a community, become involved in this worthwhile effort.

Whether it’s organizing a musical group, volunteering to sell tickets or help publicize the event, in order for this event to be successful, we all have to do our part to make this cantata one that will ring to the rooftops across our county.

“I’m so happy to have him on board with us and so thankful that he has volunteered his time with us to make this thing happen,” Payne said. He noted that anyone, regardless of affiliation with a church congregation, could participate.

The chamber will hold a meeting Aug. 26 at the Kenbridge Community Center for those who want to join the cantata.
