The 2017 season begins Friday evening for the Central High School varsity football team, and the Chargers have been involved in preseason preparation for the past few weeks. They got their first taste of on-field action against an opponent earlier this month when they hosted Wilson Memorial High School for a scrimmage, an event depicted in the photos on this page. Central’s season opener is set for 7 p.m. against visiting Altavista High School. Last year, the Chargers fell to Altavista in both their first and last games, the latter being a second-round contest in the regional playoffs. Central finished 8-3 in 2016.
