‘Skills with Drills’ sessions hosted by LGS

With the small numbers of fall ball sign-ups, Lunenburg Girls’ Softball (LGS) has aimed to put together a program that will keep players on their toes and refreshed for spring softball and school ball tryouts.
Participating girls are invited to grab their bat and glove and join LGS at the ball field at 129 N. Maple St. in Kenbridge for a series of “Skills with Drills” sessions that will take place Sunday afternoons from Sept. 10 through Oct. 29.
The sessions will run from 2-5 p.m., with lunch available for purchase at the concession stand at 1:30 p.m. For week one, a hot dog, chips and a drink will be available for $3.
Each week, coaches and participants will spend one hour working on a specific skill.
Following the drills, players will split into teams and have the opportunity to practice the skill they have learned in a scrimmage that will will run from 3-5 p.m.
Players have the option to come one week or every week.
LGS is asking for a $2 donation each week to help cover the cost of bills.
On Sept. 10, participants will be given a softball refresher. The next week, they will do outfield and fly ball work. Infield and ground ball work will be the focus of on the final Sunday of September.
The session Oct. 1 will offer training on bunting, both the executing bunts and defending against them. Education on swings and hitting will come the next week. On Oct. 15, players will be drilled on cutoffs and relays, they will learn about base running and sliding on Oct. 22 and coaches will go over pickles and run downs Oct. 29.
