Hold Out Hope – Read Luke 1:5-7

Zechariah and Elizabeth had done it the right way. They were both “righteous before God” and “living blamelessly according to all the commandments and regulations of the Lord.” That’s just another way of saying that they did things the right way for a long time. However, things still didn’t pan out the way they thought or expected. Their obedience wasn’t an exemption from heartache. There righteous living wasn’t a guarantee that every longing was met. Through it all, they still couldn’t have children. Eventually they did, but not in the timeframe they expected. All the time, they never gave up hope.

What have you been hoping for that hasn’t materialized? Have you just wanted to quit, throw in the towel, etc.? The Christmas story reminds us that God doesn’t give up on us, he just comes to us in ways we don’t necessarily expect. Hold out hope…and keep your eyes open for God’s work in your life.

PRAY THIS…

Most Giving God, give me strength to face my unmet expectations and disappointments with hope. Remind me that you know and care for me even when I feel as if I’ve been forgotten. I am looking and listening for you now. Amen.
