Mary Sue Fowlkes Whitehead

Ms. Mary Sue Fowlkes Whitehead, 76, of Chase City entered eternal rest on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 at VCU Health Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill.
Ms. Whitehead was born in Lunenburg County on August 21, 1941 to the late Robert Edward and Lula Townsend Fowlkes. She was a 1958 graduate of Lunenburg High School, Victoria; she also was a graduate of Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) in Petersburg. She retired from the Prince Edward County Public Schools in June 2004 after 36 years in education. Ms. Whitehead was a member of New Rehoboth Baptist Church, Keysville, where she previously served as the Financial Secretary.
Cherishing her memories are a daughter, Vera Tann (Ronnie) of Chesterfield; a grandson, Kelvin Thomas Jr. of Jacksonville, NC; a great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Grace Thomas of Charlotte, NC; brother, Edward L. Fowlkes (Melba) of Chase City; niece, Tracey Fowlkes of Chase City; two great-nephews; two great-great nephews; grand God-children, Dallas Dance and Dominique Moody; sisters-in-law, Verna Spencer, Naomi Whitehead and Janis Whitehead; brothers-in-law, Thomas Thompson and Richard Forest and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services were conducted at noon Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City with Rev. John Craighead, officiating. Burial followed in the New Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery, Keysville.
