Proving competitive

Central High School senior shooting forward Darryl Jones, pictured above, and the rest of the varsity boys basketball team were searching for their first win of the 2017-18 season Tuesday as they hosted Randolph-Henry High School. The Chargers were 0-4 entering that game, but they have shown themselves to be competitive. Though they fell by 30 points against powerhouse host Goochland High School to open the season Dec. 5, the final margins of their three contests last week were significantly narrower. They lost 78-67 at Bluestone High School on Friday, fell 58-51 to visiting Buckingham County High School on Dec. 13 and narrowly lost 66-60 to host Cumberland County High School on Dec. 12. After Tuesday, they have two more games on the schedule for 2017, both taking place in a tournament at Altavista Combined School.
