Ernest Garland Carter, 77, of Kenbridge, Va. died peacefully Jan. 11, 2018 with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse H. Childers. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce H. Carter; daughters, Dawn C. Childers (Steve) and Amy C. Lacy (D.R.); grandchildren, Matthew and Jackson Childers and Zach, Natalie, Lindsey and Sam Short; great grandson, Jacen Short; brothers, Marshall Carter (Jeanette) and Wallace Carter; sister Martha Jane Fizer (Dwight).

Ernest served his country for over thirty years under the Department of the Army. He loved hunting, fishing, playing softball and tinkering with old cars. He was a member of the Kenbridge Baptist Church.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge, Va. Interment in the Crestview Memorial Park, LaCrosse, Va.
