A period of snow is expected late Tuesday night into Wednesday across the Heart of Virginia as a cold front crosses the area.

The service cites that snow is likely Tuesday night, mainly after 1 a.m., with a 80 percent chance of precipitation and snow accumulation less than one inch possible. Snow is possible Wednesday, mainly before 1 p.m., with a 80 percent chance of precipitation and snow accumulation of two to four inches possible.
According to Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) spokeswoman Paula Jones, crews were out pretreating major roadways as early as Monday.
“Beyond that right now we’re continuing to monitor conditions,” Jones said. “This storm has a potential to bring several inches of snow snow to the area, so we’ll continue to monitor that.”
She said VDOT is expecting to have crews working both shifts Tuesday night into Wednesday addressing conditions.
“We’re concerned about the refreeze Wednesday night into Thursday as well and monitoring that because things are going to be pretty cold,” Jones said.
She said she encouraged people to pay attention to the forecast.
“There are going to be some icy conditions with whatever type of precipitation we get and with any amount that we get,” Jones said.
