Kaya Hanks was one of the younger attendees of the Lunenburg County Comprehensive Plan meeting Thursday at Victoria Public Library, but she contributed several great ideas of what to bring to Lunenburg County.

Among them, a community garden and a place to practice yoga.

Hanks, a fifth-grade student at Victoria Elementary School, said her interest in saving the environment came from wanting to grow enough food to help feed people who need it the most.

“I thought about homeless people because they don’t have any food,” Hanks said, who noted growing food could feed people and save the environment.

She puts her love of the environment and gardening into practice, growing sunflowers and tomatoes with her family at their home in Lunenburg County.

Hanks, who plays basketball with a community basketball league, said she also enjoys being active.

“I like to play sports,” Hanks said.

Though Hanks has a green outlook, her favorite color is purple.

Hanks is expected to bring her good ideas and community involvement with her when she enters the sixth grade at Lunenburg Middle School this fall.
