The Kenston Forest School varsity golf team began its pursuit of a sixth straight Virginia Colonial Conference (VCC) championship by earning a victory last week to open its 2018 season.

The match involved all of the conference’s teams competing at Cypress Cove Country Club in Franklin. The Kavaliers, on a very cold, wet day, came away with a 22-stroke victory over their closest competitor, Brunswick Academy, in the five-team field.

Tyler Borum, of Blackstone, led the way for Kenston Forest with a 45. Colton Carter, of Crewe, carded a 46. Sam Hodges and Hogan Whitlow, both of Kenbridge, totaled a 48.

Only three other competitors from the four additional teams managed to break 50 for nine holes on a very weather-adverse golf day.

The Kavs visit Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Catholic School on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in their first action following spring break this week.
