Miss Junior South Hill 2018

Miss Juniela Marie Perez a junior at Kenston Forest School, was crowned Miss Junior South Hill 2018 and won a scholarship award of $2,500. She was sponsored by Kenbridge Construction Company. The scholarship pageant was held by the South Hill Junior Woman’s Club at the Colonial Theater in South Hill on March 24. There were nine contestants competing for the scholarship and title. Each contestant was required to have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, be a junior or senior in high school, and select a pageant platform. They presented their platforms and were interviewed by a panel of judges the day of the pageant. The interview portion of the competition was worth 40 percent of their overall score. “Voices for Veterans” was the title of Miss Perez’s platform. She talked about her community service project of making blankets and delivering them to veterans at McGuire VA Hospital. She emphasized the importance of reaching out to our country’s veterans. The night of the pageant, contestants were judged on Personality Wear, Evening Gown and Onstage Interview Question. Miss Junior South Hill 2017, Samira Maldonado, presented the crown to Perez. She is the daughter of Dierdre Ramirez, formerly of Kenbridge and now resides in Crewe.
