The Lunenburg County Chamber of Commerce awarded fifth-grade student Austin Konkel with the Student of the Quarter Award during the March 29 chamber meeting, held at Marino’s Italian Restaurant. Pictured are, from left, Casey Jackson, principal of Victoria Elementary School, Konkel and Chamber President Mel Payne. According to Jackson, Konkel is the school’s spelling bee champion and has participated in the school’s accelerated reading and mathematics programs. Jackson said on the day Konkel received the award and realized he would miss a science project in class, he worked with his teacher to finish the assignment before he left. “Austin exemplifies our Panther Paws pledge every day,” Jackson said. “He always follows directions, and works hard on a daily basis … He deserves praise and recognition for his accomplishments, his effort, and his behavior at Victoria Elementary.
