Kenston Forest School’s varsity golf team entered last week ranked No. 6 out of 42 teams in the state that are part of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association’s (VISAA) Division II level. The Kavaliers went 1-1 last week against stiff competition.
On April 10, Kenston Forest won its conference match at Mill Quarter Plantation in Powhatan. Even though the Kavs scored two strokes better than in the previous Virginia Colonial Conference (VCC) event, this match was much closer. The Kavaliers defeated archrival Brunswick Academy by a mere four strokes, 185 to 189.
Kenston Forest’s Tyler Borum led the way with a 43. Colton Carter scored a 44, and Hogan Whitlow carded a 45.
On Thursday, Kenston Forest hosted Isle of Wight Academy, the No. 3 ranked VISAA Division II team, at Nottoway River Country Club. This match was also quite close on a very windy day with the Chargers prevailing over the Kavaliers by eight strokes, 172 to 180.
The Kavs were again led by Borum with a 43. Whitlow and Carter scored 45s, and Sam Hodges carded a 47. The Kenston Forest squad now carries an 8-0 record in the VCC and a 9-1 record overall.
The Kavaliers hit the road to face Isle of Wight Academy on Thursday at 3 p.m.
