Warrior Hunts of Virginia will be hosting six wounded veterans Friday and Saturday for its third annual Spring Gobbler Warrior Hunt. The veterans will arrive in South Hill Thursday evening and will hunt Friday and Saturday. The all-expenses paid outdoor adventure will round out with an “Appreciation” banquet to be held Saturday night. At this year’s banquet, the veteran who inspired the Warrior Hunts of Virginia effort, George (Mike) Crowell, will be honored and going forward, the Spring turkey hunt will forever bear his name as the annual “Crowell Spring Gobbler Warrior Hunt.” Warrior Hunts of Virginia recently obtained its nonprofit 501C3 status, formed a board of directors and will be organizing its efforts to expand their offerings to our deserving veterans. Warrior Hunts of Virginia is a local entity and is not connected to any national organization, accordingly, all funds raised stay local and are spent in Mecklenburg, Lunenburg and surrounding counties to support the participation of our veterans. At last year’s highly successful event, the organization hosted six veteran hunters with five harvesting turkeys from area farms and properties owned by generous individuals who support the event. Navy veteran Monte Webb, who lives in High Point, North Carolina, and is paralyzed from the waist down, was one of last year’s successful hunters. “I am so grateful for the opportunity to come up and enjoy the comradery and great hunting with Warrior Hunts of Virginia, harvesting my first ever wild turkey with John Lee and Doug Atkins was an experience I will never, ever forget … what an awesome morning,” stated Webb, adding, “Warrior Hunts of Virginia is a great group of real Americans and they are kind and gracious hosts.” The organization is seeking sponsorships and donations for the upcoming hunt. Veterans can be sponsored and donations would only be utilized to offset the costs (lodging, meals, etc.) incurred in staging the event. If you would like to make a contribution and honor our veteran heroes by helping support this event, please contact Johnny Seamster (434) 294-6714, Barry Connell (804) 339-3916 or Brian Williams (434) 247-9008. “Generous monetary support from the public allows us to host these very deserving American heroes, provide them with a memorable outdoor experience, and express our gratitude for their service and sacrifice,” comments Johnny Seamster, chairman of the Warriors Hunts of Virginia Board of Directors, adding, “It is an unforgettable experience for everyone involved and we are thankful for those who are willing to offer their support for this most worthy local event for our veterans.”
