Mike Hankins, of Kenbridge, was elected to the office of the Executive Committee of the Republican 5th Congressional District on April 28.

The Executive Committee, according to a news release from Hankins, includes the Republican 5th District Committee officers, the State Central Committee Members and three Unit Chairs selected by the District Committee.

Hankins said he will be assigned as chair of the Fundraising and Donor Development Committee and will serve on the Budget Committee.

The seat will be a two-year term.

Hankins serves as the Brown’s Store District Supervisor with the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors.

“The 5th District is composed of all or parts of 23 counties, 3 cities, the Young Republicans and the College Republicans,” the release cited. “The District runs from Brunswick County in the East to Henry County in the west and all the way up to the outskirts of Washington.”

“I will be working closely with Congressman Tom Garrett, U.S. Senate Candidates Nick Freitas, Cory Stewart and E.W. Jackson,” Hankins said. “I will also be working with Republican candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate whose area is part of the 5th District.”

In his position, Hankins said he will work to represent the needs of the people in Lunenburg County, and to generate recognition of the county by state officials

“Lunenburg is the smallest county population wise in the 5th District,” Hankins said. “In this new post I will be spending time and voicing concerns of the people in Lunenburg to elected official’s both in Richmond and in Washington. Because I am an outspoken salesman for life in Lunenburg it has helped get people in our county, like for the Governor’s Candidate Forum last year in Kenbridge and the Republican Senate Candidate coming for dinner at the Victoria VFW on (Saturday).”

“I intend to continue to work for Lunenburg County and the people in it,” Hankins said.
