Lunenburg County is gearing up for a summer of live music, celebrating a historic home, new and exciting foods and community togetherness.

Music in the Park will kick off June 22 from 6-8:30 at Victoria Railroad Park. Taking in a balmy evening to pull up blankets or lawn chairs and listen to live music sounds like an ideal way to enjoy what could be a new tradition, and to get to know one’s neighbors.

Participants can also observe the 200th anniversary of Brickland Plantation, located in Kenbridge. A celebration June 23 from 1-5 p.m. will take place of the house, hosted by the Lunenburg County Historical Society and Brickland Farm, which currently operates a Certified Naturally Grown produce and berry farm. Hosts will offer tours of the house and garden, where participants can see the berry farm and the quaint spiral staircase.

For any readers who are foodies, prepare to travel the United States with your taste buds during the second annual A-Taste-of-States fundraiser, taking place June 23 and beginning at 3 p.m. at the People’s Community Center in Victoria. The event is set to have foods inspired by the Mississippi Delta, the Louisiana Bayou, Texas, Mexico and of course Smithfield Virginia ham.

Independence Day will arrive in Lunenburg with a bang, as Kenbridge will host its first Fourth of July parade and jubilee beginning at 9 a.m. with a parade on Fifth Avenue.

The daylong event will also see a ribbon cutting for the new Kenbridge Farmers Market pavilion, a petting zoo, bouncy houses and barrel rides for children, games, music and vendors.

Life can become hectic, and sometimes it’s easy to feel isolated or disconnected from others.

This summer, take time to visit a community event, perhaps meet a friend or two, and enjoy everything summer in Lunenburg County has to offer.
