A stolen tractor and bulldozer were recovered after being buried at a property in Lunenburg County, following an arrest and investigation of a man for multiple charges of theft.

The buried equipment was found at a property on Kings Road in late May, Virginia State Police Public Relations Coordinator Susan Rowland cited in a release.

“In March 2018, Virginia State Police began investigating the theft of a John Deere 5303 tractor, a John Deere 550G bulldozer and various other tools from a property on Old Peachtree Road in Prince Edward County,” the release cited. “The smaller tools were recovered at a property on Kings Road in Lunenburg County on March 30, 2018.”

Samuel L. Hall, 23, of Green Bay, was arrested April 27.

Hall was charged with three counts of felony possession of stolen property, one count of misdemeanor possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice, police said.

“In late May, the investigating trooper received a tip about the location of the tractor and dozer, which led him back to the same property on Kings Road in Lunenburg County,” the release cited. “Upon arriving at the property the trooper witnessed a portion of the dozer protruding from the earth.”

Police said the department called an excavation company to excavate the dozer, and while digging they also discovered the tractor in the same hole.

“The equipment, which is valued at between $75,000 and $100,000, was not in working order when it was found,” police said. “Charges are expected related to the recent recovery.”
