Elsie Joyce Chandler Brown, 83, of Dundas, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2018. She was the widow of Thomas Albert Brown of Dundas, VA who passed away 6 months ago (December 2017). They were married for 58 years. Elsie was one of four children born to the late Fred Chandler and Thelma Verna Dobson Chandler of Burkeville, VA. Her two siblings that preceded her in death were Gladys Barden and Roy Chandler. She is survived by her children, Thomas Albert Brown, Jr., Irving Preston Brown of Florida, and Sharon Renee Brown Lyles (Billy) of Kenbridge, Virginia and one sister, Ola Swain of South Carolina, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and close cousins and friends. Elsie’s passion was cooking, baking, fishing, and taking care of family. Her baked goods, including cakes and pies, were always a favorite for those who stopped by her home for a visit. You never left her home hungry and she always prepared enough food to feed an army even when it may be only a few coming to partake at her table. Elsie enjoyed visiting with old friends and making new friends wherever she went. She always had a smile on her face and a song in her heart. She enjoyed the sunshine and any road trips that led her out of Dundas, Virginia, especially fun adventures to West Virginia. She was a lifelong member of Perseverance Christian Church where she was a member of the Perseverance Adult Choir and Praise Group. Elsie worked up until her 80th birthday. She proudly retired after more than 38 years with the Rochester Button Factory and 13 years with the U.S. Postal Service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Perseverance Christian Church, P. O. Box 157 Dundas, VA 23938. Visitation will be held at Clarke Funeral Home, 110 E. Fifth Ave, Kenbridge, on Thursday July 5, at 1 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. Online condolences may be sent at www.clarkefh.com.
