The Lunenburg Girls’ Softball (LGS) Debs All- Star team has represented itself well at the 2018 Virginia Dixie Softball Debs State Tournament in Farmville, going 2-1 through the first four days of the double-elimination event.

The team was set to take on the two-time defending state champion Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) All-Stars on Tuesday evening.

To open its state play in Farmville, the LGS All-Stars blew out Blackstone 17-5 on Saturday. Then, after Powhatan National handed PEFYA its first loss in more than two years, Lunenburg beat Powhatan 9-7 on Sunday.

“We knew we had it, could do it,” LGS Debs Manager Charles Berkley said. “We’ve got the team, we’ve got a good pitching staff, we’ve got a real good defense. (We) came out a little slow there, kind of got stagnant there in the middle of the game but came back and put it together and played it, took it on to the end.”

In a battle of unbeaten teams Monday night, Lunenburg faced Clarksville and went into extra innings before falling 13-12.
