A 30-year-old woman in Green Bay was arrested for embezzlement at her previous place of employment, Lunenburg Animal Hospital, Lunenburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Clement confirmed Tuesday.
Michelle Lee Eggleston, of Green Bay was arrested Monday by Virginia State Police on 10 counts of embezzlement from Lunenburg Animal Hospital.
Eggleston worked as a office assistant in the administrative part of the veterinary business, Clement said in a news release.
“She was released Monday night on a $5,000 secured bond, and appeared in Lunenburg Circuit Court Tuesday morning for advisement of right to counsel,” Clement said. “She told the court that she had retained Khalil Latif, attorney in Farmville.”
Her next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 9. Clement said the charges arose following an investigation that began earlier this year “at the request of the employer who had discovered discrepancies in claims for wages for hours not worked, veterinarian services, and inventory loss.”
“The indictments cover a period of June 2016 through December 2017,” Clement said. “Each count of embezzlement covers about two months and allege that each count is more than $200 which makes each charge a felony.”
The total loss is estimated to be approximately $20,000.
