Man dies in vehicle accident

A Kenbridge man died early Saturday morning after a vehicle accident on Route 138 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia State Police confirmed.

Edward C. Ghee, 51, of Kenbridge, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, police said.

“A 2011 Buick Regal traveling southbound on Route 138, about a mile north of route 649, ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected then crossed the center line and struck a 2004 Chrysler Sebring head on,” a release from Virginia State Police cited. “The Chrysler driver – Edward C. Ghee, 51, of Kenbridge, Va. – was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.”

Police said the driver of the Buick, Daveyon M. Rainey, 20, of Victoria, was charged with reckless driving. He was not injured in the crash.

“The crash remains under investigation,” police said in the release.
