An event to beautify the Town of Victoria’s roadways and grounds and remove damaging debris and litter is scheduled to take place Saturday.

Clean up day is set to take place from 9 a.m. until noon. Volunteers will meet at the Victoria Railroad Park parking lot. The previous town wide clean up day event took place April 21, serving as a springboard for a weeklong commitment to clearing litter and debris from the town.

In April, the town provided free services to pick up limbs and yard debris from residents’ yards. “Overgrown areas and dilapidated buildings can become havens for vermin, snakes, and other wildlife and may create a hazard for your neighbors,” the news release from the April clean up event cited.

“Overgrown areas and buildings beyond repair also have a detrimental effect on property values. In the most recent county property reassessment, property values in the Town of Victoria decreased over $98,000.” The release cited that a factor contributing to this decrease in property value was due to the unkept state of some of the properties within the town limits.
