Hearing for council set

A public hearing to discuss proposed changes as to when town council members are sworn in, and when their terms happen is set to take place during the council’s meeting Oct. 16.

The hearing is set to take place at 6:45 p.m. at the Kenbridge Town Office at 511 E. Fifth Ave.

The council is exploring the potential for Kenbridge Town Council members to have staggered terms, meaning that only a certain number of people in public office would be elected in a given year.

Kenbridge Town Manager Robyn Fowler said this measure differs from the current terms on town council, where all of the seats are up for election at one time.

Fowler said the hearing would also explore the idea of having council members and mayor take the oath of office at the regularly scheduled June town council meeting following the regular municipal election, which takes place May 1.

Currently, the town council holds the oath of office ceremony in July. This year, the council also held a meet and greet event where citizens could correspond with town council members and ask questions.
