In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity, with other area nonprofits, will hold a community support program at the Prince Edward County High School track.
The event is set to begin Saturday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to set a goal, such as how many laps or miles they will run, and run on the track during the day Saturday.
Participants are asked to bring their own water.
Those involved can also create a Facebook fundraiser to benefit an area nonprofit organization. According to an announcement from Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity, participants can select the menu icon, and then select “fundraiser” on their mobile phones. On desktop, people can select “create” along the top menu and then select “fundraiser.”
Once people create the fundraisers, they are encouraged to post them on the Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity event page at https://www.facebook.com/events/509847899506561/.
The fundraiser represents a wider goal by Habitat and several community organizations to create a Beloved Community, a term popularized by King to create an environment without poverty or division.
