Kenbridge Fire Department representatives were honored during the department’s annual banquet Saturday.

The event was held at the Kenbridge Fire Department station, which included a dinner and award ceremony.

Chief Richard “Dickie” Harris estimated that approximately 130 people attended the banquet.

“I think the winners are well deserving and they received the appropriate awards based on their service for the past year,” Harris said.

The award recipients, Harris said, included Katy Gee, who was awarded for 10 years of service with the department. Christopher Wallace and Jason Wilson were awarded for 15 years of service. Bobby Oakes was awarded for 20 years of service. Ronnie Hite was awarded for 30 years of service. Tommy Parks was awarded for 40 years of service. Dennis Hudson was awarded for 45 years of service.

Ferrell Alder, 1st assistant chief, was awarded for responding to the most calls in 2018, at 91 calls. Alder also received the Officer of the Year award. An officer, Harris said, holds a certain rank at the department in addition to being a firefighter.

Oakes was awarded Firefighter of the Year.

The fire department was established in 1908, Harris said. He said the department is older than the Town of Kenbridge itself.
