Gordon Thea Clarke

Gordon Thea Clarke, age 91, of Victoria, VA passed away Monday, February 25, 2019. He was the son of the late Stuart and Annie Crafton Clark of Rehoboth, VA. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lee Hoyle Clarke; granddaughter, Angel Clarke; sister, Margaret Clark Conner; and brothers, Pete and Howard Clark. Gordon’s wife of 25 years, Naomi Abernathy Clarke, passed away just one day after him. He is survived by his two sons, Gordon Terry Clarke and wife, Doris of Mathews, VA and Jan Clarke and wife, Carrie of Crewe, VA; step-son, James Abernathy and wife, Bernadine of Victoria, VA: two step-daughters, Jewell Widgins and husband, Bill of Chesapeake, VA and Rose Wright and husband, Tommy of Victoria, VA; his grandchildren, Gordon Terry “Opey” Clarke, Jr., Jonathan, J.E.B. Stuart and Thomas Clarke, Mary Catherine and Lawson Abernathy, Tara W. Dickson, Tommy Cole, and Briggs Wright; and two great granddaughters, Stella and Diana Dickson. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Martha N. Clark; brother-in-law, Early Conner and his long-time friend, John P. Zava all of Victoria, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and Korea and a proud member of Victoria VFW Post 9954. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and former Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He retired from Fort Pickett, VA in 1991 as a Planner and Estimator with the Department of Engineering and Housing. He also owned and operated G.T. Clarke and Son Refrigeration. He enjoyed farming, gardening, going to auctions and looking for one more tractor for his collection.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 1, at Central Baptist Church, 57 Merryman Drive, Victoria, VA. Interment followed in Lakeview Cemetery in Victoria. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home of Chase City, served the family.
