Approximately 35 students at Central High School (CHS) will give audience members a memorable performance through the drama program’s spring musical, “Disney’s Freaky Friday.”
The play will run Friday, March 22, Saturday, March 23, 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 24, 3 p.m. at the CHS gymnasium.
The musical is based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the Disney film.
The play centers on a mother and teenage daughter who inexplicitly switch bodies.
Amanda Ellis, the drama instructor for Central, said there are 35 students in the cast, orchestra and crew. Student Brooklyn Blaszkiewicz plays the daughter, Ellie and Gabrielle Aubel plays the mother, Katherine.
“The moments they have together onstage seem real and relatable,” Ellis said about Blaszkiewics’ and Aubel’s dynamic together.
The cast isn’t entirely made up of students. Karen McGrath, Jessica Watson, Hannah Sacra and Kenneth Vaiden, teachers at Central High School and Victoria Elementary School, will take part in the play.
“It’s wonderful to see them collaborate with the CHS students onstage,” Ellis said. Ellis said the show has great music in addition to a compelling story.
“If you have never seen a musical before then this is a great show to see for the first time,” Ellis said. “The musical is new, exciting and delightful. The musical numbers are catchy and refreshing, and the talent of our cast and live orchestra brings the musical to life.
“We are very happy to bring a musical like Disney’s Freak Friday, a new musical, to the Central High School stage,” Ellis said.
