The United States Department of Agriculture in conjunction with the Feedmore Central Virginia Food Bank has a monthly supplemental food program for low-income senior citizens — age 60 or older. The Commodity Supplemental Food Program is designed to provide a monthly supplement of wholesome food to help stretch the food dollars of low-income seniors who are vulnerable to malnutrition. Seniors receive a monthly prepackaged, shelf-stable box of food. Seniors who have incomes below 130 percent of the poverty level are eligible for this program. For example, for a single person, this income level would be less than $302.00 per week or $15,678 per year. The income levels vary with the number of people in the household.
