The Kenbridge Town Council is set to hold a number of public hearings prior to its regular meeting Tuesday, March 19, at the Kenbridge Town Office.

The first hearing, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., addresses a proposed ordinance that would authorize the town to collect on Machinery and Tools tax at a proposed rate of 15 cents per $100 of value.

The ordinance would be consistent with Article 2 (§ 58.1-3507 et seq.) of the Code of Virginia, which can allow for local taxation of active machines and tools used in a municipality. Idle machinery or equipment used in industries such as farm wineries, manufacturing and others would be exempt from the taxation, according to the Code of Virginia.

At 6:40 p.m., the town is set to receive public input about proposed changes to real estate tax from 41 cents per $100 value to 44 cents per $100 value, and personal property rates from $1.41 per $100 value to $1.55 per $100 value.

At 6:45 p.m., the town council and Kenbridge Planning Commission set a joint public hearing to discuss the Lunenburg County/Town of Kenbridge/Town of Victoria Comprehensive Plan.

At 6:50 p.m., the council and commission will hold a second public hearing concerning a rezoning application to install 10 ground-mounted solar panels at a property located at 807 S. Broad St.

The council and planning commission will hold a last public hearing at 6:55 p.m. for proposed rezoning in order to construct apartments. The rezoning is proposed to take place along E. Sixth Avenue, between S. Grace Street and 533 E. Sixth Ave. The property is proposed to be rezoned from Residential-20, Single Family to Residential-5, Multi-Family.
