Lunenburg County officials are in the process of investigating a reported dog attack. The attack, according to Ellis Andrews, the owner of the dog who was attacked, resulted in the dog having to be put down.

The dog attack was reported to have occurred early Friday morning at Sugar Hill Road.

Andrews said he let his dog, Tarshi, outdoors early Friday. Andrews went into the house and heard a loud bang at the front door.

Thinking someone may be breaking in, Andrews said he went to investigate. He said he saw his neighbor’s dog attacking Tarshi. After Andrews intervened and retrieved Tarshi, he said he took his dog to a nearby veterinarian.

He said Tarshi had to be put down due to the severity of the injuries.

Lunenburg County Administrator Tracy Gee and Lunenburg County Animal Control Officer Ray Elliott said in statements that they are aware of the incident, that the incident is under investigation, and that they could not provide additional comment.
