Central High School’s varsity softball team put together a strong 2-0 week last week, outscoring its opponents 25-10.

“Our team is playing better together, defensively,” Lady Chargers Head Coach Karen McGrath said.

On Thursday, Central was on the road, taking on Prince Edward County High School, and the Lady Chargers returned home with an 11-2 victory.

Two days prior, Central topped host Randolph-Henry High School 14-8.

“We have decreased the number of errors we were making in the field,” McGrath said. “Our team overall is batting well.”

The keys to victory in each game were uniform for the Lady Chargers.

“We consistently hit the ball and were aggressive on the base paths,” the coach said.

Central junior pitcher Sorie Scott earned the win in the circle in both games.

“She also leads the team in hits,” McGrath said.

The coach also noted that freshman catcher Caroline Bayne has not only been strong behind the plate this season, but she has an outstanding batting average.

“She hit a ball over the center field fence against Prince Edward,” McGrath said.

The two victories take the Lady Chargers’ overall record this season to 4-2, which has left their coach with a strong impression about her team.

“I am very pleased,” she said. “The first loss was just a bad game overall, defensively, and the other loss was close but because of defensive errors. I believe we have gotten a handle on defensive errors.”

Central fell 24-5 against host Buckingham County High School on March 14 and lost 7-5 to visiting Bluestone High School on March 20.

The Lady Chargers have only one game this week. They will host William Campbell High School on Thursday at 6 p.m.
