Storms possible for afternoon, evening

Thunderstorms, gusty winds and rainfall to potentially total more than an inch are on the forecast for Lunenburg County starting Monday afternoon into the evening.

“Showers and thunderstorms are expected across the outlook area from the late afternoon through late evening hours today,”  The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield cited in a hazardous outlook report. “Any thunderstorms that do develop will be capable of producing gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall.”

The NWS estimates that a chance of showers and a thunderstorm is forecast after 2 p.m. Southwest wind is forecast is be around 10 miles per hour, and rainfall amounts between the afternoon and evening could reach between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Into the evening, showers and a thunderstorm could occur before 2 a.m., with additional showers to potentially follow. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible, according to NWS.

Some potential storms and showers are also forecast for Tuesday afternoon after 2 p.m. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch could be possible, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms, according to NWS.
