A series of strong thunderstorms that passed through Lunenburg County early Monday morning resulted in the death of a Victoria resident after a tree fell on her home.
Victoria Town Manager Rodney Newton confirmed that Lena Gaulding, a resident of Park Avenue in the Town of Victoria, was killed after a large tree fell on her home.
“There were (four) residences that sustained heavy damage as a result of trees falling on them,” Newton said in a statement Monday. “(One) house received minor damage from a tree striking it.”
Newton said numerous downed trees and power outages had a large impact on the majority of Victoria residents.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Rusnak said Monday the storms that passed through Lunenburg County appeared to have been affected by straight-line winds, or winds that hit the ground and spread out in one direction.
He said data of the storm, as of Monday, has not indicated tornadic activity in Lunenburg.
