Central High School’s varsity softball team came off a 14-4 road win over Cumberland County High School on Thursday to visit William Campbell High School (WC) on Monday, and the Lady Generals were able to escape with a narrow 7-6 victory in extra innings.

“We had five hits to their seven,” Lady Chargers Head Coach Karen McGrath said. “(We) had a hard time in the beginning of the game to string hits together. WC scored first in the bottom of the third with a three-run homer. We scored one in the fourth and had a strong fifth, with five runs scored. WC tied 6-6 with us in the bottom of the sixth.”

She noted that no one scored in the seventh, and the winning run came in the bottom of the eighth.

Central visited Bluestone on Tuesday and hosts Randolph-Henry on Thursday at 5 p.m.
