Anderson arrested for cutting throat of victim

A Victoria resident was arrested Saturday after cutting the throat of a victim on Central Lane, according to the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Rodney Leroy Anderson, 53, of Victoria, was arrested at the scene and charged with felony aggravated malicious wounding, which carries a possible sentence of 20 years to life in prison, according to police.  

Deputies from the department responded Saturday at approximately 7:30 p.m. to a call of a person bleeding.

“Upon arrival deputies found a 59-year-old female with her throat cut,” officials from the sheriff’s office reported in a news release.

“Victoria Rescue Squad responded to the scene and then transferred the subject via Medflight to VCU Medical Center in Richmond where she is in stable condition,” the release cited.

Anderson had a prior relationship with the victim, according to police.  

Anderson is being held at Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville with no bond. He will be in Lunenburg County General District Court on Wednesday, May 8, for advisement of his rights to an attorney, according to police. The case remains under investigation.
