Central softball advances; baseball and soccer seasons end

Central High School’s varsity softball, baseball and soccer teams were active Tuesday evening in their respective Region 1B tournaments, with the softball squad prevailing and the baseball and soccer teams showing fight but falling, bringing their seasons to an end.

The No. 3 Lady Chargers softball team routed visiting No. 6 Cumberland County High School 16-3 in the first round of the regional tourney to advance to Thursday’s 5 p.m. semifinal game at No. 2 Riverheads High School.

In baseball, No. 4 Central’s offense came to play, but the Chargers were ultimately unable to contain visiting No. 5 Stonewall Jackson High School, of Quicksburg, losing 13-10 in the first round.

Central’s baseball team finished the year with an overall record of 8-13.

In soccer, the No. 5 Chargers were able to put goals on the scoreboard, but host No. 4 Altavista High School ultimately outpaced them, winning 9-3 in the regional quarterfinals.

Central’s soccer team finished the year with an overall record of 4-12-1.
