Recently, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) held an Industrial Technology Advisory Committee meeting. Chris Foster of Global Safety identified skills that are in demand within his company. Professors Scott Edmonds and Vincent Brown explained Southside’s curriculum and how it ties into the identified skills. Edmonds and Brown identified equipment used by Global Safety that could be used to help train students. Later, Foster brought a box of the identified equipment to Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center (LCAKC) as a donation. The donated equipment included PLC proximity switches and sensors, variable speed drives, and Allen Bradley PLC devices. Dr. Chad Patton, Dean of Career and Occupational Technology said, “This equipment is exactly what SVCC graduates will see and work on in the field, and the donation means a great deal to our program.” Pictured are, from left, Foster, Tiffany Bacon-Broadnax, LCAKC Coordinator; and Dr. Patton.
