Congressman Denver Riggleman visited Piedmont Senior Resources Area Agency on Aging (PSR) in Farmville and helped deliver a meal to a resident in the area on Tuesday.

Riggleman toured the office, saw prepared meals that are given to senior citizens in the region and spoke with PSR Executive Director Justine Young and Director of Transportation and Nutrition Jordan Miles.

Riggleman also visited seniors in the Farmville area and helped deliver meals.

“It was an honor to be invited to help deliver food to the needy in our community with Piedmont Senior Resources yesterday,” a statement from Riggleman cited Wednesday. “I was touched to be welcomed into people’s homes — the 5th District has some of the kindest people in America and it is our duty as Americans to care for our elderly.”

“We were thrilled to have Congressman Denver Riggleman visit our offices, deliver meals to homebound clients, learn more about our programs, and truly embrace the mission and what our agency does for the community,” PSR Executive Director Justine Young said in a statement Wednesday. “Riggleman is the first member of the U.S. Congress to visit PSR and made it very apparent and clear that he understands the return on investment through our many programs that help members of the aging population age in place in a safe and independent manner. The return on investment we discussed with Riggleman and his staff regarded saving the taxpayers money in the long run, along with lessening the burden on rescue squads, fire departments, police departments and emergency rooms.”

Young and Miles said its programs, including friendship cafes and home-delivered meal, have room to accept new members, and encourage seniors and their caregivers to call and sign up.

Miles estimated that roughly 290 seniors receive home-delivered meals, equating to approximately 1,500 meals served a week. To learn more call (434) 767-5588.
