Recently the Democratic Nominating Committee for Senate District 15 nominated Virginia Smith of Prince George County as the Democratic candidate to challenge the Republican incumbent. Smith graduated from Virginia Union University and the University of Virginia earning a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degree respectively.
Smith devoted her professional career to education as a public school teacher for nearly 30 years and later an adjunct professor. Smith has written several children’s books and mentors at-risk children in her spare time.
Smith is committed to championing critical issues including education, economic growth, and improved access to rural health care, including primary care and mental health services. She looks forward to presenting a value based, people centered and common sense approach to the problems that we face together in the 15th District.
“I am honored to have received the nomination. I look forward to continuing to travel around the district to meet and learn from all of the wonderful people who live here. Fortunately, the economy is doing well in Virginia; however, far too many here in the 15th District can’t tell. I pledge with all that I possess, if elected, to put our district and its people first. There are many things that can be done in Richmond to help the hard working families who are presently worried about the light bill and the seniors splitting their medication in half. Over the next several months, I will present a people focused and inclusive platform for the 15th District. I am humbled by the outpouring of support for my campaign and I hope to earn your vote on Nov. 5,” Smith said.
