The Meherrin Fire & Rescue Independence Day celebration will take place on Saturday, June 29, starting at 11 a.m.

According to Meherrin Fire & Rescue Chief Trey Pyle, Brunswick stew will be ready by 11 a.m. and there will be vendors and music performances by the Stepback Band, based in Rice, that starts at 4 p.m.

Admission is free. There will be a boot drive at the gate to support Meherrin Fire & Rescue.

The adjusted date for this year’s event, Pyle said, is due to schedule conflicts with some of the event organizers.
