Bobby E. Walters

Bobby E. Walters was born August 14, 1937, in Horry County, South Carolina to Lula McClain Walters. Bobby went home to be the Lord on July 3, 2019 to sing in the Heavenly Choir. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lula McClain Walters, two brothers and two sisters. He received his education Whiteville, NC and the Washington D.C Public School Systems.

He believed in and accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age in North Carolina at St. James A.M.E. Church in Whiteville, NC., where he served as Junior Deacon. Bobby became a member of the Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a member of the E.W. Walker Inspirational Choir until his health failed.

Bobby’s passion for singing gospel music led him in many directions: singing with the original Southern Wings of New Haven Conn; the Gospel Determinators of Washington, DC; the Redeeming Souls of Washington, DC; and finally the Anointed Singing Disciples of Kenbridge, VA. He also sang with many other groups in the Washington DC area. In addition to singing in these groups, he would sing with any group needing a voice in uplifting the name of Jesus.

Bobby had a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling and playing cards with friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Hedy, daughter, Marilyn of Spring Valley, New York; son Brian, grandson Rashaad of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughter, Mackenzie, and four great-grandchildren, Dante, Rayla, Ryan and Rylee of Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters; Lenore Gordon of High Point, NC; Lucille McMillan of Washington, DC; and Queenie (Williams) Anderson of Ft. Washington, MD; sisters-in-law, Maxine Hardy of Baltimore, MD, Barbara Lester of Jacksonville, FL, Nannie Lester of Baltimore, MD, one brother-in-law James H. Smith of Norfolk, VA; and a wonderful son at heart, Steve Shelton of Chase City, VA; and a host of other nieces, grand nieces, nephews, grand nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday July 9, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Forth Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Crewe, VA with the Reverend Earl Walker, Pastor. Interment was in the Jones Family Cemetery, Kenbridge.
