Ruby Crews Meyers

Ruby Crews Meyers, formerly of Victoria, VA passed peacefully from this life on July 3, 2019 at the home of her daughter Janice Shulick in Surprise, AZ. Ruby was born in Buckingham County, VA on March 19, 1923 as Ruby May Crews. She was a graduate of Buckingham County High School. As an employee of Paritts Hardware in Farmville, VA she met her husband Horace E. Meyers. They were married in Raleigh, NC on February 24, 1949 with a marriage that lasted for 67 years until the passing of Horace Meyers. They moved to Victoria, VA in October 1951 where they resided at 1716 10th Street until June 2015 with Horace’s passing. Ruby continued her residence there until December 2015 when she moved to Raleigh, NC to be near her daughters, Linda Raber and Sharon Bryant. Lastly, she came to live with her daughter, Janice Shulick in Surprise, AZ on March 19, 2019 until her passing.
Ruby was a stay at home mother for many years. She entered the workforce working for a small loan company located in both Blackstone and Victoria, VA. She also worked at Scovill Manufacturing as a bookkeeper then finally as a teller for Benchmark Community Bank in Victoria, VA. Ruby was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 9954 as well as a lifetime member of the Victoria Baptist Church.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband Horace E Meyers, her beloved daughter Rebecca M. Webb, her parents Charlie and Lillie Crews, her beloved sister Gertrude C. Nicely, her brothers Alex Crews, Preston Crews and Garland Crews and her best friend Shirley Chappell.
Ruby is survived by her daughters Linda M. Raber (Ken) of Nashville, TN, Janice M. Shulick of Surprise, AZ and Sharon M. Bryant (Gil) of Apex, NC , her brother Cliff C. Crews of Buckingham, VA, her 6 grandchildren: Christopher Gill, Jason Shulick, Rebecca Shulick, Melissa Raber-Jennings, Gregory Raber, and Leigh Bryant as well as her 4 great-grandchildren: Adrienne Raber, Macyn Gill, Chase Raber, and Avery Raber.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria, VA on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. Prior to the service the family will meet family and friends at the VFW Post 9954 starting at 10:30 am. The family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to the Victoria Rescue Squad, VFW Post 9954, or Victoria Baptist Church all located in Victoria, VA 23974.
