Chicago the musical

“Chicago” has come to Southside Virginia and it is filled with amazing talent and entertainment. With a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, “Chicago” is one of the most sought after shows to perform.

Set within the razzle-dazzle debauchery of the ‘20s, “Chicago” is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she fools everyone including the public, the media and rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slipperiest criminal lawyer Billy Flynn. He manages to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of dramatic headlines, and capitalize on her newfound fame in the meantime.

This show is directed by Sandra Lowe with music direction by Maurice Ellis, and choreography by Michelle Harris and Alicia Washburn. This show is sponsored by longtime support partner Benchmark Community Bank. The local talent appearing onstage is amazing with Michelle Harris as Roxie Hart, Christy Aviles as Velma Kelly, Maurice Ellis as Billy Flynn and LeShawn Bell as Amos Hart, amongst many others.

Show dates will be Saturday, July 27, 7 p.m.; Sunday, July 28, 3 p.m.; and Friday, Aug. 2, 7 p.m. All shows will be held at the Kenbridge Community Center, 511 E. Fifth Ave., Kenbridge.
