A 25-year-old Blackstone resident died following a single vehicle accident July 3 in Lunenburg County, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).

The driver, Rayshawn L. McFarland, 25, of Blackstone, was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond, according to VSP, where he succumbed to his injuries later that night.

The accident occurred at 7:16 p.m. on Route 637, approximately 1 mile south of Route 719 in Lunenburg County.

“A 2007 Ford Focus was traveling along Route 637 when it ran off the right side of the highway,” VSP officials cited. “Its driver over-corrected the vehicle, which brought it back across the roadway, the Ford then ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.”

The crash remains under investigation, according to VSP.
