Lunenburg, specifically the Town of Kenbridge, received nearly $19,000 from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) to offset costs related to Tropical Storm Michael last fall.
VDEM reported that on July 24 funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) Grant Program were provided for post-disaster recovery to reimburse local governments, state agencies, and private non-profit organizations during Tropical Storms Florence and Michael.
According to the announcement, $14.7 million in total was awarded. The commonwealth contributed more than $2 million of this funding.
“Expediting the federal funding to impacted public entities is a crucial component of the recovery process,” VDEM State Coordinator Jeff Stern said in the announcement.
